THE DEPARTMENT OF APPLIED GEOLOGY AND THE CENTRE OF ADVANCED STUDY IN GEOLOGY CELEBRATE ON 5 AUGUST 2003 THE 47TH ANNIVERSARY. THE EARTH IS NEARLY 4.7 BILLION YEARS OLD. HOPING THAT THIS INSTITUTION WOULD LAST THAT LONG IS PURE FANTASY, AND LIKE LIVING IN A FOOL'S PARADISE BUT AS LONG AS THERE IS THE EARTH, THERE ARE HUMAN BEINGS, AND OF COURSE THERE ARE THE GEOLOGISTS, AND BY ALL MEANS SOMEBODY OUT THERE FOOLISH ENOUGH TO POUR DOWN THE MONEY REQUIRED FOR GEOLOGY AND GEOLOGISTS TO SURVIVE, WHY NOT CHOOSE TO LIVE IN THAT FOOL'S PARADISE ? The above was three years ago. This year we celebrate the 50th anniversary. Dear Visitor: Welcome to this site devoted exclusively to the broad domain of structural geology. It is replete with modules, animations, images, references, plug-ins, feedback, search engine, eAtlas, image and animation galleries and about 4000 important links in the field of this fascinating earth science domain. It also encourages 1. NEW UNIVERSITY POSITIONS IN STRUCTURAL GEOLOGY INCLUDING AN ADJUNCT ONE FOR A SENIOR EXPERIENCED PERSON. PLEASE CLICK HERE TO DOWNLOAD THE PORTABLE DOCUMENT FORMAT APPLICATION MATERIALS 2. Talk of the times: stop
the next tsunami earn a geology degree If you think that the background music distracts you, please stop or pause it on the control to which you can go by clicking here. To avoid doing this however, on 13 pages that are associated with this, it might be good to mute your MIDI or sequencer interface by opening the audio devices from the task bar of your machine. I only hope that you will respond favourably to this site and let me have your comments and criticisms which sure will promptly be attended, barring those that will depend on the limitations of the server. |

This website is also meant to give some basic programming tutoring to students. As a humble beginning the students may click here to see a very simple algorithm in VB5 or VB6 to plot a pole and plane from direct input of data or from the direction cosines of a pole.

"....fantastic blend of art
& science...." ..a university professor
"...What a lovely site.. a delight to the sight.."...the CEO of a DOTCOM company from Arizona "....attempt is really praiseworthy.." ...a University Reader and renowned scientist. "...Loads pretty quickly here in Cambridge with the great super server we have..." (personal family letter) "...Pages load very quickly here in Ohio not as slow as they did in Andheri in Mumbai, nearly 10 to 15 times quicker and that is a whopping quick thing to happen." (from a personal family letter) "...fine..can you get rid of those frames.....they are too boring....Just have the banner one and main, that's all ." (personal family letter from Baltimore) "..a good piece of work..." ...a geologist friend "the only immediate thing I want to comment upon at the moment is that I want a button to stop the background music while I am looking at the content.." a noted structural geology professor from US |

GENERAL REMARK FROM THE NEW WORLD: "COOL!" AND "AWSOME" GENERAL REMARK FROM THE REST OF THE WORLD: "HOT" OR ANY OTHER EXPRESSION EXCEPT COOL OR AWSOME "..Why, the software is virtually an electronic Atlas. With ample text, it could be an additional e-Book..." "....So much in 650 MB, it is really fine packed up cabinet..." "...It might be worth having those freeware things included in the software CD. " "...we have saved your web pages on our PCs for the students to use..."..a University professor "Hats off to your monumental effort ! It is a breakthrough and beyond doubt the best thing that could have happened to the subject. I've had the opportunity to proudly show it to few confidants around and the reaction was 'unbelievable'. To me personally, the two eBooks are more valuable and I shall be looking forward to procuring more of such stuff ! As far as 'A to Z' is concerned, I would have liked lesser trafficked pages to be woven in a manner only you can do. The content is enormous and more than sufficient. In a developing country like ours with a crunch on sponsorships and funds to operate, a S/w like this is ought to go a long way in dissemination of knowledge and enthusing the versatility of the subject." -the author's former doctoral student *****IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT THE ADMIRATION FOR W D WEST WAS GREATLY TARNISHED BECAUSE OF THE SUDDEN DISCOVERY THAT HE IS ACCUSED OF THE FIRST CASE OF PLAGIARISM IN GEOLOGICAL SCIENCES, HAVING COPIED FROM J G MEDLICOTT AND PUBLISHED IN HIS OWN NAME.
