On pressing the plot reverse button, the values of l, m and n are used to recalculate the pole plunge and azimuth and the pole in red square and plane in green are superimposed on the previously drawn pole and plane. At the same time the text boxes for input of plunge amount and azimuth values get cleared for next dataset. Compare input values of plunge and direction in Fig 1 with those calculated from direction cosines stored in the list box control as 24 and 232.86 in place of input of 25 and 233 and both match pretty closely. The complete short code is given below. The values are very accurate if the scaling of picture is done on say, 2000,2000 in place of present 200,200 (see Form_load procedure)

If you plot two poles and the two planes, say two limbs of a fold, and place your mouse pointer exactly at the intersection of two planes, a simple algorithm written by the author for the purpose of benefit of the students immediately stores in two text box controls the plunge amount and azimuth of plunge of Beta based on X and Y coordinates of the picture box control which can always be scaled to as much accuracy as possible. The simple code for this is given under px_MouseDown(Button as integer,X as single, Y as Single), px_MouseMove (Button as integer,X as single, Y as Single) and px_MouseUp (Button as integer,X as single, Y as Single) commands. The pole to one plane plunges at 42 degrees in 100 degrees and that of another plunges at 33 degrees in 240 degrees. After the two planes are plotted, one may simply click exactly at the point of intersection of the two planes Beta (blue arrow in the figure to the left. The plunge amount of Beta of 25.14 and that of the direction of Beta 345.86 get stored in the text box controls at the bottom left of the figure. |
