If you do not have the shockwave player, you may download it from here after reading the necessary agreement. Alternatively you may download this protected Flash 5 file by clicking here and playing on your machine on the flash 5 player and not in the browser. Welcome to structural-geology-portal which is exclusively devoted to structural geology. It has teaching modules on different topics in structural geology which the students can use as general introductions to the topics. These are accompanied by a large number of graphics in the form of line diagrams, field photographs and photomicrographs as well. Initially, the modules are placed in two fields of structural geology, the strain analysis and buckle folds and mechanics of folding. However, if you click here, you will know the principal purpose of placing these modules on line and also the various topics on which modules will be appearing in future. This site is being launched on 5th August 2001, the 47th anniversary of the Departmental of Applied Geology and Centre of Advanced Study in Geology, Dr H S Gour University, SAGAR 470 003, M P, India and is a token of respect by the author for his alma mater and needless to add his tribute to the founder of the department, Late Prof William Dixon West+++ and to five of the great structural geologists who have passed away in as many years (with the exception of Gilbert Wilson who passed away about 15 years ago) as well; these being (most recent demise first): Professors Robert Shackle ton (the biographical sketch and obituary published in the Times Literary Supplement, London on 9 July 2001 is the DOC file of 57k size and titled Prof. Robert Shackleton, dt. 9-7-2001.doc can be obtained by mailing to the times@times.co.uk or you may download it from here ), Paul Hancock ( see the photograph and a modest tribute at this place), Khitindramohan Naha , Janet Watson and Gilbert Wilson; the author had the privilege knowing all personally. The little biography of the dept founder is given at the link where you read his name above. However, to see the First day Cover published in his birth centenary year, click here. There is a brief description of the department and its faculty and the current research interests at the appropriate link in the navigation bar to the left. You may know about the university where I am based by clicking here and the photograph of the philanthropic founder Dr Sir Hair Singh Gour after whom the university is named by clicking here. We have a sad news of Prof John Butler's demise recently. Dr John Butler of the University of Texas at Houston was a recognized figure in computer modeling of geological structures. The structural geology community will most surely feel a great void created on account of John's passing away. Also Prof V K Kayak, former professor with us and an authority on impact craters passed away on 5 July 2002. This site give you a large number of links to other structural geology sites as well including those for software (see the screenshot of the 650 MB one made by the author at this bookmark), for animations, courses and research facilities. It also contains software written by the author such as OCX controls, Windows executable or application files for running the standard structural geology programs and also listings of programs. For example, click here to see the listing of a program written by R J Lisle but extensively modified by the author for palaeostress analysis for obtaining a direct plot, for Mohr diagram plotting, for preparing ROSE of fault population, for preparing Fry's diagram for oblique slip faults and computing and tabulating total, normal and shear stresses all rolled into one (see the screenshot and other plots of the Windows version of this made by the author at this link). Please keep accessing this site to see more of such listings. Please sign the guest book by clicking here to afford me with your valuable comments. To the right is shown on of the screenshots of A to Z CD ROM companion which is a 650 MB software written by the author, please click the image to get the info or use the navigation bar above. The OCX ad was introduced on this page since the CEO of robocx.com gave the author the OCX controls for printing and sizing absolutely complimentary. You may click the graphic, download the evaluation copies and see for yourself how forceful they are. To the left: A snippet from the COMIC TOUR OF A TO Z. . (Courtesy, Reader's Digest) IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE THAT THE ADMIRATION FOR W D WEST WAS GREATLY TARNISHED BECAUSE OF THE SUDDEN DISCOVERY THAT HE IS ACCUSED OF THE FIRST CASE OF PLAGIARISM IN GEOLOGICAL SCIENCES, HAVING COPIED FROM J G MEDLICOTT AND PUBLISHED IN HIS OWN NAME.
